Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two nominated for two awards at the British Book Awards
Pottermore and Little, Brown have been nominated for Children’s Book of the Year at the British Book Awards 2017 for the script book of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two. Pottermore has also been nominated for Marketing Strategy of the Year for their marketing campaign for the eBook of the same title.
Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a new play by Jack Thorne, picks up the story nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows, in a return to the wizarding world that will “satisfy any Potter fan” (GQ).
The special rehearsal edition script was released in conjunction with the opening of the play at the Palace Theatre in July 2016. It was the bestselling book of 2016, the fastest-selling book of the decade, and the fastest-selling play script of all time, prompting managing director of Waterstones, James Daunt, to name Rowling the “patron saint of bookshops”. The theatre show is currently sold out until 2018.
This is the second nomination for J.K. Rowling, who scooped the Children’s Book of the Year prize in 2006 for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
The British Book Awards are the definitive event for honouring the commercial success of publishers, authors and bookshops. They recognise the very best of trade and creative talent in the publishing industry over the past twelve months.
