Translation Rights

Licensing translation rights is a crucial part of sharing your story with the world.

Work with us, and you can trust that our in-house Translation Rights team will champion your work and help it sell as widely as possible.

You’ll benefit from our extensive worldwide network of publishers and editors with whom we have close, fruitful relationships.

Plus, once we’ve sold your story, we’ll keep in close contact with you and the international publishers throughout the publication process and beyond. This means you’ll keep greater control over your translated editions and the way your book appears within international markets.

Over the years, we’ve sold rights to books in over 50 languages, so you can rest assured that your work will be in extremely safe hands.

Our multitalented Translation Rights team speak multiple languages between them, so we can build and maintain rapport and relationships with local publishers.

If you’re ever at the key international book fairs in London, Frankfurt and Bologna, you’re bound to see us there. Watch out for our big smiles as these book fairs are the highlight of our year.

Liane-Louise Smith

Head of International Rights

After completing an MPhil in Linguistics at Cambridge University, I started my career in publishing in the contracts team at Transworld Publishers (Penguin Random House) where I learnt the nuts and bolts of the industry. I then moved into the international publishing world, starting off at Random House Children’s Books, before moving over to agenting and joining Furniss Lawton in 2012. In 2019, I became Rights Director at the Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency where I was shortlisted for Rights Professional of the Year in 2020.

I am passionate about languages and storytelling and believe there should never be barriers between books and their readers. I love working in the international publishing world for this reason and always delight in seeing authors’ work travel around the world.

When not sharing books with international colleagues, I can be found dancing or singing jazz, or learning about the intricacies of the Finnish case system! I speak French, Spanish and Italian, am currently learning Portuguese and Norwegian, and always eager to add to the list!

International Rights Assistant

I completed an English BA (Hons) at City, University of London before beginning a six-month trainee placement at the Royal Society of Literature, in partnership with Somerset House. I started my career in publishing interning at David Higham Associates before joining Eccles Fisher in October 2022, scouting for the best in fiction and non-fiction for a range of high-profile publishers and film & TV clients. I joined the Blair Partnership in August 2024.
