The World Book Day Award: In Association with Flying Fergus
The World Book Day Award (WOBOD) is the ‘biggest and most creative book challenge’, inspiring schools nationwide to come together in their school communities and take part in an activity that celebrates what reading means to them. This year’s award is in collaboration with Flying Fergus, Chris Hoy’s action-packed cycling adventure series for middle grade readers.
Participating schools will be tasked with creating a display that shows how they are flying high with reading, along with a short paragraph explaining the inspiration behind their entry. The winning school will receive a life-changing library of books worth £5,000 from their local bookshop plus a visit from Chris Hoy, his Flying Fergus co-writer Joanna Nadin, and the series illustrator Clare Elsom.
World Book Day (1st March) also sees the release of the eighth book in the Flying Fergus series, Flying Fergus: Trouble on the Track. This latest instalment ushers in decision time for Fergus and the rest of the squad: the international championships are nearly here, and it’s time to name the four riders who will be in the starting line-up. The new books publication and Chris and the Flying Fergus team’s sponsorship of the World Book Day Award will see coverage from The Guardian, The Mail on Sunday, Shortlist, The Times, BBC, Fun Kids Radio and First News. Chris will be a guest at the Authors Abroad Children’s Festival Launch 2018, and will appear on CBBC Bedtime Stories in early 2018.
